Start of Week 3
Moab, UT
Well, we made it! While I have always said it’s the journey, not the destination, in the back of my mind getting to Moab was the big milestone for this adventure, and so far it has not been a disappointment.

We spent the day exploring Arches National Park. All I can say is WOW! We hit many of the usual sites, but the highlight for me were the 10 miles and 2 hours we spent off the main road traversing the off-road trail that connects to the upper end of the park. We saw 3 other vehicles the entire time out on the trail and got access to rock formations not seem by most. While a high point for me, I am not sure how much Jameson enjoyed the ride from the backseat where he was pitched and tossed like a rag-doll as we navigated over obstacles, over rocks, and deep sand.

The Jeep performed as designed and expected, even with all the extra weight we are carrying. And while I wouldn’t want to do a lot of hardcore rock-crawling with all this weight, it was a good test of the vehicle before we start more remote travel in the coming days.
We spent the evening camping on the shores of the Colorado just a few miles outside of Moab in a BLM campsite called Kings Bottom. While primitive, it did come with vault toilets, fire rings, and amazing views! The mosquitoes did not cost extra. We will be spending one more night in Kings Bottom before heading over to Canyon Lands.

Like the rest of this journey, sometimes you just need to go with your gut. After two days in the sun and sand and facing two more in the back country, we all need to cool off and slow down. Since we could, we abandoned camp and headed for softer, cooler, and wetter accommodations. Happy Campers!

Cheers from the road!
