After a week on the road and 5 days of thunderstorms we still can’t seem to catch a break.
We stared the morning visiting the Great Pyramid of Memphis, AKA Bass Pro Shop. This alone is worth a visit to Memphis. Had I researched properly ahead of time I would have booked us into this establishment. As it was, a quick morning visit was all we needed to know… we want more!!

We savored our time checking out all the various nooks and crannies of what I can only describe as the Disneyland of the bass fishing community. I was left thinking about a great line from Fields of Dreams… if you build it, they will come. And they do!

Heading west out of Memphis this morning we knew the prospects were daunting, but held out high hopes things would turn our way after we passed through Arkansas and what was (at the time) the worst thunderstorm I have ever driven in.
That was until we got to Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma, and planned destination of our next camp site where we witnessed an awesome display of the power of mother nature. This put the little rain shower in Arkansas to shame. If you are not familiar with Lake Eufaula, I highly recommend listening to a song by one of my favorite artists, James McMurtry, titled Choctaw Bingo which will give you a general overview of the area I am talking about.
Needless to say it was time to once again call upon the powers of Michele to come to our rescue and book yet another hotel room, this time just outside Oklahoma City so we have safe refuge for the night. Tomorrow will will check out OKC before heading west to just outside Amarillo Texas and our excursion to Palo Duro Canyon (The Grand Canyon of Texas) – where, by the way, the weather looks amazing!!
Cheers from the road and the end of our biggest mileage day yet, clocking in at nearly 500 miles!
