Day 5/6 – Calling the audible

Saturday, June 22, 2019

The beauty of an adventure like this is that you can plan all you want but in the end you have to have the openness to just roll with it.

After deciding there was no reason to hurry out of GSM went took our time restocking some previsions, trying to locate a few missing parts, and then venturing down the road, destination unknown.

While we had originally planned to roll into Santa Fe on Sunday, June 22, the prospect of driving 1300 miles in three days didn’t appeal to any of us. Especially when there is so much to see between here and there.

With that mindset, we started heading west on I-40. I didn’t want to drive the interstates if we could avoid it, but since we hadn’t’ yet made it much farther west than the North Carolina / Tennessee border, it seemed the prudent option.

We knew we weren’t going to make it to Memphis on Friday so Mac was tasked with finding a suitable camp site outside of Nashville. Armed with a good signal and Google he started searching out suitable sites, eventually landing on Edgar Evins State Park in Tennessee. While maybe not exactly what we had expected, it turned out to be a fine spot, with a great lake to swim in (and cliffs to jump off of), grills, and a warm showers!!

RV Platform Camping – Tennessee Style

We could have done without the severe thunderstorms that rolled in around 9:30 and lasted until about 1AM, but in the end us and the equipment survived unscathed, albeit a bit damper then when we started.

On Saturday afternoon we rolled into our final destination for the day, Memphis, TN. We are using the break to catch up on uninterrupted sleep (each in their own bed), laundry service, and a chance to see a city that is new to all of us. uninterruptedOn Saturday afternoon we rolled into our final destination for the day, Memphis, TN.
